NEET impersonation case: Student, parents held
A 20-year-old MBBS student from Theni Medical College who had allegedly been impersonated during NEET exam in Mumbai was arrested near Tirupati on Wednesday (September 25).
KV Udit Surya had been in hiding for a week along with his parents. Surya’s father is a senior doctor at Government Stanley Medical College in Chennai.
The incident came to light after AK Rajendran, dean, Theni Medical College received complaint that photograph of Surya in college admission card and his NEET mark sheet were different.
On September 18, Rajendran filed a complaint with the Theni police, who booked the youth under IPC Sections 120(B) (Punishment of criminal conspiracy), 419 (Punishment for cheating by personation) and 420 (Cheating and dishonestly inducing delivery of property).
Since then, Surya and his family members have been absconding. Preliminary investigation revealed that, early this year, a localite had impersonated Surya during the NEET exam that was held in Mumbai. The police also found that Surya had failed to clear the NEET exams for the past two years and the impersonation had been orchestrated with the help of a coaching centre in Mumbai.
During admissions, Surya secured a seat in the Theni Medical College with the marks obtained this year.
After the police formed special teams to nab Surya, he moved the Madurai Bench of Madras High Court on September 24 with a petition seeking anticipatory bail in the case. However, the court adjourned the case to October 2, considering its serious nature.
