Stalin to inaugurate media & entertainment summit CII Dakshin in Chennai
CII Dakshin, to be held on April 9-10, will have keynote talks and panel discussions by experts including filmmakers Maniratnam and SS Rajamouli
The Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Southern Region is slated to host the first edition of CII Dakshin 2022 – South India Media and Entertainment Summit from April 9 to April 10 at the Chennai Trade Centre.
The event, which will be inaugurated by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin, aims to bring together relevant stakeholders in the media and entertainment industry and help them share and learn from best practices, identify opportunities and network with peers for progression.
The theme for Dakshin 2022 is ‘Culturally Rooted and Creatively Global’. The topic will be discussed by industry experts through keynote talks, panel discussions, and fireside chats. The Federal is the media partner for the event.
Growth tailwinds
The CII, in a press release, said that the media and entertainment industry, which has managed to survive the economic ramifications of the COVID pandemic, is now witnessing strong growth tailwinds. It is expected to grow to become a $55-70 billion industry by 2030, more than twice its current value of $27 billion, it added.
“The pandemic disrupted and transformed the consumption habits for content – both at home and outside. Some of these emerging trends will have long-term implications for the industry. We expect the digital trend to intensify, demand for regional content and OTT adoption to continue rising and the emergence of new business models better suited to the new reality,” the release said.
TG Tyagarajan, Chairman of Dakshin and Managing Partner, Satya Jyothi Films, said the Indian media and entertainment industry will be required to create more differentiated, diverse content that can cater to a diverse section of audience and strive to provide a more personalised viewing experience.
The way forward
“We will need to continue innovation on pricing and monetisation models that will take Indian content to wider international audiences; develop new, strategic selling models that enhance the value proposition for advertisers; develop media and entertainment as the industry of choice for new age talent and invest in technology and advanced analytics to drive content curation, targeting, measurability and visibility,” he said.
Suchitra Ella, Chairperson, CII Southern Region, and co-founder and Joint Managing Director of Bharat Biotech International Ltd; filmmakers SS Rajamouli and Maniratnam; actors Fahadh Faasil and Taapsee Pannu; Monika Shergill, Vice President-Content, Netflix India; Gaurav Banerjee, President and Head – Content, Disney Hotstar & HSM TV network; and Sameer Nair, CEO, Applause Entertainment Pvt Ltd, are among the dignitaries invited to the event.
