Non-bailable warrant issued against actor Vishal for non-deposit of TDS
A Chennai court has issued a non-bailable warrant against actor Vishal for not appearing before it in connection with a case filed by the Income Tax(IT) department for non-deposit of TDS of his company’s employees within the stipulated time.
Chennai Economic Offences Court Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Malarmathi issued the warrant against Vishal on Friday (August 2).
In 2017, IT sleuths raided the actor Vishal Krishna’s Vishal Film Factory office and reportedly found over ₹50 lakh of TDS collected from his employees were not deposited with the income tax department.
The IT department had filed a case against Vishal in this regard, but the actor had not appeared before the court during the hearing on July 2, as his counsel denied receipt of any summons.
However, the counsel filed a petition for absence of Vishal. Objecting this, public prosecutor M Sheela asked how the counsel could file a memo of appearance and file a petition to condone the absence of Vishal, when he did not even receive the summons.
Sheela also produced the acknowledgement for the receipt of summons that were produced to Vishal. She also prayed for an non-bailable warrant for not appearing in spite of receiving the summons.
Recording the submission of both the counsels, Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate S Malarmathi issued non-bailable warrant against Vishal.
