Karnataka confirmed three new cases of coronavirus on Tuesday (March 10), taking the total number of infected people to four, Health Minister B Sriramulu has said.
“So far, four people have been confirmed for COVID-19. The patients as well as their family members have been quarantined,” Sriramulu said in a tweet.
Running the hashtag #CoronaVirusOutBreak, the minister said, “I appeal to the people to make sure that this disease does not spread further.” However, the minister did not elaborate.
Chief Secretary T.M. Vijay Bhaskar convened a meeting with the health department officials to assess preparedness and ensure public safety.
A Bengaluru-based techie, on Monday (March 9), was tested positive with the novel coronavirus. This was the first case of COVID-19 reported from Karnataka. The patient had a travel history of the United States (Austin, Texas) via Dubai on March 1 and was being treated at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases in the city.
“The patient and four others, including his family members and a driver, have been quarantined and isolated for treatment. One of his colleagues has also been admitted to the hospital for showing coronavirus symptoms,” the Health Minister had said earlier.
