Five of family including 2-yr-old girl found murdered in UP’s Prayagraj
In a shocking incident, five members of a family including a two-year-old girl were found murdered at home on Saturday morning (April 23) in Uttar Pradesh’s Khevrajpur village of Prayagraj district.
According to police, they received information at around 5:30 am that four to five people were found dead in a house.
Upon reaching the spot, police found the head of the house, Rajkumar (55), his daughter Manisha (25), his wife Kusum (50), his daughter-in-law Savita (30), and granddaughter Mitakshi (2) dead, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Ajay Kumar said.
The incident happened on Friday night when Rajkumar’s son Sunil was not in the house. He had gone to attend a wedding, police said.
The SSP said that prima facie it appears that the victims were hit with a stick or some blunt weapon and there were injury marks also on the head.
How the killings took place and other details will be known only after the post-mortem, the SSP said, adding it will be videographed so that no evidence is left out.
It was also found that there was a fire in the bedroom of the house which was extinguished by the fire brigade, he said.
A case has been lodged at Gangapar Tharwai police station area and seven teams have been formed to look into the whole matter, the SSP said.
District Magistrate Sanjay Kumar Khatri said police were first informed by the locals that a fire had broken out in the house.
“Police were initially informed that a fire had broken out. As police and fire-fighting teams reached, bodies of Yadav and the others were found in the house. The bodies of the little girl and her mother were near the room where the fire had broken out. Yadav and his wife, who was still breathing, were on a charpoy. Then their daughter’s body was found. No angle of enmity has come to the fore so far,” he said.
Reacting to the incident, the Samajwadi Party (SP) attacked the Yogi Adityanath government saying that Uttar Pradesh is “immersed in crime”.
SP president Akhilesh Yadav said on Twitter, “Under the BJP 2.0, UP immersed in crime. Today’s testimonial” and attached the news report of the killing.

The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) chief Mayawati called for strict action against the culprits. “The news of the brutal murder of five members of the same family in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh is very sad, condemnable and worrying. The government should go to the bottom of the incident and ensure strict legal action against the culprits.”

The five murders come just after a week after four members of a family were killed in Khagalpur village of Nawabganj police station area of Gangapar area in Prayagraj. They were murdered with sharp weapons and the head of the family was found hanging.
