COVID-19 brought under control in Delhi, says CM Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday (July 1) said the COVID-19 pandemic had been brought under control in the national capital, which has the third-highest number of infections in the country.

During a video-conference, the Chief Minister said the situation was improving in Delhi in the last few days. “The COVID-19 situation is under control. In Delhi, the number of people recovering from coronavirus is also increasing,” he said.

Kejriwal said the situation was not “terrible” as predicted one month ago. He said experts had predicted that Delhi on June 30 would have one lakh cases, of which 60,000 would be active ones. But the national capital currently has 26,000 cases, Kejriwal added.

The Chief Minister added that the Delhi government had also increased the number of tests and said it was a good indication. Earlier, around 31 of 100 people, whose samples were collected, tested positive for COVID-19, but it has come down to 13, he said.

However, he added that there was no room for complacency. “The virus is unpredictable and we must continue our efforts with more vigour,” Kejriwal said.

In the last 24 hours, Delhi witnessed 2,199 new COVID-19 cases, increasing the total number of confirmed cases 87,360. While there are 26,270 active cases in the national capital, 58,348 people have been cured or discharged from hospitals. So far, 2,742 people have died of COVID-19 in Delhi.
