Absolutely shocking: Kejriwal as EC yet to release final poll turnout
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday termed as “absolutely shocking” the delay in release of the final voting percentage in the assembly elections that took place on Saturday. He wondered why the Election Commission was sitting on the figure even several hours after polling got over.

“Absolutely shocking. What is EC doing? Why are they not releasing poll turnout figures, several hours after polling?” Kejriwal tweeted. The last voting percentage given by the commission on Saturday night was 61.46 per cent. The voting in the national capital to elect a new government ended at 6 pm on Saturday.

Talking to reporters, senior AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that this is perhaps the first time in the country’s history that the Election Commission is not ready to release voter turnout data. “When the Lok Sabha elections were held with ballot paper, even then the turnout used to be declared in one hour. Now the technology has gone so far, yet it took 24 hours,” he tweeted.

Over 1.47 crore people were eligible to exercise their franchise in the polls that is set to decide the fate of 672 candidates in 70 assembly constituencies which saw a triangular contest among the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), opposition BJP and the Congress. The exit polls on Saturday predicted an overwhelming victory for the AAP.
