Sigh of relief as Assam girl tests negative for coronavirus

On Sunday (March 22) morning people woke up to the news that gave some sort of relief as the sample of a 4-year old girl child was tested negative who was earlier tested positive.


On Sunday (March 22) morning people woke up to the news that gave some sort of relief as the sample of a 4-year old girl child was tested negative who was earlier tested positive.

On Saturday evening, the sample of the child who recently travelled outside the Assam, tested positive at Jorhat Medical College Hospital (JMCH) creating a panic like situation.

The sample was immediately sent to the Regional Viral Research and Diagnostic Laboratory of the ICMR-RMRC in Dibrugarh for confirmation where it was tested negative.

“The 4-year-old child who was suspected of #covid19 and tested in Jorhat Medical College and RMRC, Dibrugarh has been found NEGATIVE. There is no Covid19 positive case in Assam as of now,” Assam Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted on Sunday morning.

With this negative result, so far there is not a single case in the region.

The girl and her family are being kept in isolation at JMCH, while all the people they came into contact with are also being monitored as a precautionary measure.

The girl, who was visiting relatives at Pulibor in Jorhat, was admitted at JMCH, along with her mother and elder sister after developing as all three have displayed symptoms of Coronavirus infection.

The first test run on the samples of the girl at JMCH laboratory on Saturday had tested positive for Coronavirus, creating a panic in the state as it could have been the first COVID-19 case in the state.
