74 held in one day as Kolkata cops step up vigilance in view of recent rapes
During a drive to ensure safety of women in the city, the police on late Friday evening arrested a total of 74 persons, over number of charges including eve-teasing and rash driving, reported Anandabazar Patrika.

During a drive to ensure safety of women in the city, the police on late Friday evening arrested a total of 74 persons, over number of charges including eve-teasing and rash driving, reported Anandabazar Patrika.
Fifty one bikes were also seized during the drive conducted by officers from a women’s police team and the detective department. The local daily quoted a police officer as saying that the drive started began in the evening and continued till midnight. The police will conduct more such drives from now on, the officer said.
Meanwhile, Kolkata Police termed as rumours the reports that said it launched a “free ride” scheme for women to ensure their safety. “Kolkata Police stands by its pledge of providing immediate assistance to anyone in distress – anywhere – anytime,” it said in a tweet.
