“As it was the team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over rate offences, Mumbai Indians captain Rohit Sharma was fined Rs 12 lakhs,” it added.
At Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai posted 177/5 in 20 overs thanks to Ishan Kishan’s 81 not out. In reply, Delhi won by four wickets with 10 balls remaining. Lalit Yadav was the top scorer for Delhi with 48 not out. Spinner Kuldeep Yadav was the Player of the match for his 3/18 in four overs.

“I thought it was a good score. It didn’t look like that kind of a pitch where you could get 170-plus at the start. But we played really well in the middle and finished off really well as well. Good score on the board, it’s just that we didn’t bowl according to the plans,” said Rohit at the post match presentation ceremony.
Mumbai has not won its IPL opener since 2012, and when asked about that, Rohit said, “Honestly, that’s never been the talk. We always come prepared, whether it’s the first game or last game, we want to try and win every game. But we made some mistakes on the field which didn’t go according to plans. But those things can happen. We just need to keep it tight within the group.”
