Jasprit Bumrah loses top spot on ICC-ODI ranking for bowlers

With T20 World Cup scheduled to take place this October, one-dayers may not be of relevance to the rest of the year for skipper Virat Kohli, but the ICC ODI rankings do for bowlers, batsman and all-rounders.

According to the latest ICC ODI rankings for bowlers, Jasprit Bumrah lost his top spot to Kiwi Trent Boult, primarily for having gone wicket-less in three ODIs, which India lost to New Zealand recently. Bumrah lost 45 rating points for going wicket-less while conceding 167 runs in 30 overs with one maiden to his credit in three ODIs. This, in turn, prodded Boult to the numero uno position despite not having played in the series due to a wrist injury.

It is to be noted that the right-arm pacer went wicket-less in a three-match ODI series for the first time, in his career spanning over four years. Other Indian pacers like Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Shami did take wickets – four and one respectively – but couldn’t help India emerge triumphant. The defeat led to India losing the series as well.

Meanwhile, spinner Yuzvendra Chahal climbed up three spots to be ranked 13th on the list. Despite playing just two matches Chahal picked six wickets and was the highest wicket-taker in the series for the Men in Blue.

Skipper Kohli and Rohit Sharma retained their first and second positions, respectively, in the ICC ODI rankings for batsmen. Kohli failed to display his prowess as he scored just 75 runs in three matches. Rohit cemented his position with 855 rating points despite not having played the ODIs due to a calf injury. New Zealand batsman Ross Taylor moved up the ladder to seal the fourth spot in the rankings with 828 points.

Among all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja moved up from the 10the rank to the 7th spot by scoring half-a-ton in the second one-day match. It’s another matter that India lost the game despite the visitors trying their level best.
