India tops World Test Championship table with 120 points
India has successfully topped the World Test Championship points table with a win in the two-match inaugural series against West Indies. Despite, Australia’s efforts for retaining the Ashes title from England for the first time since 2001, the team failed to cross India, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
Australia have reached 56 points on the table whereas India stands tall with the full 120 points assigned for the series.
What is World Test Championship?
According to the rules issues by ICC, all Test series played during August 2019 to June 2021 would fall under the World Test Championship and are allotted 120 points.
The top nine teams are scheduled to play three home series and three away series for the same.

Since, India won the test series against West Indies 2-0, the team is ranked 1 with 120 points. The Kiwis and Sri Lanka drew the series 1-1 and so, both side shared the points of 60 each.
However, the Ashes series comprised of five matches and with the Aussies winning two, England winning one and another draw, Australia stands with 56 points and England ended on the fourth position with 32 points.
120 points distributed per match in a series
Match 2 – Win (60), Tie (30), and Draw (20)
Match 3 – Win (40), Tie (20), and Draw (13)
Match 4 – Win (30), Tie (15), and Draw (10)
Match 5 – Win (24), Tie (12), and Draw (8)
On a contrary, the larger picture is not about winning the Ashes but getting more points on the table, which England in the last match would try to end with a draw series and Australia will go full force trying to move up on the chart.
The finals of World Test Championship will be played at the historic Lord’s, London.
After the conclusion of tour of West Indies, the Indian team will take on South Africa in the home test series, starting on October 3.
