VVS Laxman set to be BCCI’s Director of Cricket: Reports
The new Director of Cricket is most likely to oversee all cricket operations in India, with all coaches and selectors of senior and age group teams reporting to him
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to have a new position – Director of Cricket, and VVS Laxman is the frontrunner to take over, according to reports.
Former India batter Laxman is currently the head of BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. He is set to be given the additional responsibility of Director of Cricket by the Indian cricket board. The new position is likely to be filled in September.

The development comes amid mounting pressure on India head coach Gautam Gambhir over a string of losses.
What will Director of Cricket do?
India Today, citing sources, said that Laxman’s position would see him at the centre of cricket operations at the BCCI.
“While the exact responsibilities would depend on the BCCI's eventual structure, a Director of Cricket role would potentially place Laxman at the centre of India's wider cricketing operations,” the report said.
Indian cricket has never had a Director of Cricket. This will be the first time such a position is being created.
Laxman’s coaching stints

Laxman, one of the greats of the game, played 134 Tests and 86 ODIs for India between 1996 and 2012. Apart from heading the BCCI’s CoE, he has stepped into senior India team’s interim coach role giving regular coach Gambhir a break.
Recently, Laxman was with Team India on the tour of Zimbabwe where the side swept the T20I series 3-0 under captain Shreyas Iyer.
