Teenage batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi is likely to be picked in the Indian T20I team for the tour of Ireland in June and could break Sachin Tendulkar’s record.

“He is in contention for the Ireland tour and the selectors have shortlisted his name along with those of many other players,” a source said, as per the newspaper report.
Tendulkar's record
If Sooryavanshi gets to play for India in the T20I format, he will break batting legend Tendulkar’s record as the youngest-ever to represent the country in any format. Currently, Tendulkar holds the record, at 16 years and 205 days, playing his maiden Test against Pakistan in 1989.
Sooryavanshi has already made headlines by breaking several records and the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to bring him into the nation setup. There have already been calls from former cricketers for his inclusion in the Indian T20I team.

IPL Chairman Arun Dhumal too, has backed Sooryavanshi for his India debut.
Sooryavanshi's outstanding strike rate
“What an amazing batting display by Vaibhav Suryavanshi this @IPL 2026 season. This prodigy certainly deserves to debut for Team India @BCCI as the youngest given his performances. It’s rare you get chance to pick up someone so talented and sooooo young too. Certainly deserves his name to be recorded as youngest debutant for India (sic),” Dhumal wrote on X (formerly Twitter).
Playing for Rajasthan Royals (RR) in the IPL 2026, Sooryavanshi has shown that he is capable of taking on the best of the bowlers as he has fearlessly dominated Jasprit Bumrah, Josh Hazlewood and others.
In IPL 2026, he has already smashed two 15-ball half-centuries. He has scored 200 runs in five innings at an outstanding strike rate of 263.15. He is currently third in the Orange Cap standings.
Sooryavanshi is already an Under-19 World Cup winner, having been part of the Indian team earlier this year in Zimbabwe. He won the Player of the tournament award for his 439 runs in seven innings.
Among his several records include youngest IPL player (14 years and 23 days), the youngest to score a century in men's T20s (14 years and 32 days), fastest to score 150 in men's List A cricket (14 years and 272 days).
