Ramesh Powar set to replace Agarkar in Ojha-led BCCI selection panel: Reports
Meanwhile, the position of chairman of the BCCI junior selection committee is likely to go to former India paceman Dodda Ganesh, who played one Test and four ODIs.
Former India spinner Ramesh Powar is set to join the BCCI’s senior men’s selection committee and will replace Ajit Agarkar, whose tenure ended on October 4.
Pragyan Ojha, who is currently the interim head of the panel, is set to take over as the full-time chairman. The committee also includes Shiv Sundar Das, Ajay Ratra, and RP Singh.
Parthiv Patel opts out
Ojha and former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel were the top contenders to be the chief selector. With Patel opting not to apply for the position, ex-India left-arm spinner Ojha is set to lead the panel.
According to reports on Saturday (October 17), Powar, who played two Tests and 31 ODIs for India, was one of the candidates interviewed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) for the vacant selector’s position.
Previously, Powar has been India’s senior women’s team head coach in two separate tenures.
The BCCI had invited applications to fill the post after chief selector Agarkar’s tenure ended. The deadline ended on October 14.
Dodda Ganesh likely to head junior panel
“The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) interviewed four or five candidates, including former India opener Wasim Jaffer, for the position. The interviews, it is learnt, were held on October 15,” a report on Cricbuzz said.
The report said that the CAC had decided to repose faith in Powar. Former India players Jacob Martin and Salil Ankola, along with ex-Baroda batter Connor Williams, were also interviewed.
