Thanks to Kohli’s 62 not out (45 balls, 4x4, 2x6) and a quickfire half-century from his opening partner Phil Salt (65 off 33, 5x4, 6x6), RCB cruised to a nine-wicket victory at Sawai Mansingh Stadium.
Kohli, 1st Asian to the landmark
Kohli set a new record, becoming the first Asian batter to score 100 fifties in T20 cricket. He is only the second batter, after Australia’s David Warner (108 fifties) to the milestone.
The 36-year-old Kohli, who made his T20 debut in 2007 for Delhi against Himachal, has been a stalwart of the game not only in the shortest version of the game but across the three formats.
Kohli equals Warner
With his latest fifty on Sunday, Kohli also equalled Warner with the most 50-plus scores in the IPL. Now Kohli and Warner are joint leaders, having crossed the 50-run mark in IPL on 66 occasions. Kohli has scored 58 IPL fifties and 8 hundreds in the league.
Kohli, who made his IPL debut in 2008 and since then has played only for one franchise – RCB, holds the record for the most runs in the league with 8,252 runs from 258 matches.
