₹80 crore damage to railways to be recovered from vandals
Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav on Monday said railway property worth ₹80 crore was damaged during anti-Citizenship law protests across the country. The damages, he said, will be recovered from those found involved in arson and violence.
Railway Board Chairman Vinod Kumar Yadav on Monday (December 30) said railway property worth ₹80 crore was damaged during anti-Citizenship law protests across the country. The damages, he said, will be recovered from those found involved in arson and violence.
The passage of the amended Citizenship bill had triggered widespread protests across India, many of which resulted in violence and arson, resulting in the damage of public property. “There has been damage of railway property worth Rs 80 crore during anti-CAA protests,” Yadav said. “Damages will be recovered from those found involved in arson and violence.”

Earlier, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath had announced a similar measure and said his government will avenge the destruction of public assets during the protests by seizing and auctioning off the property of those involved in the violence.
“Properties of those involved in damaging public assets will be seized and auctioned to compensate for the losses. They have been captured in video footage. We will take revenge,” he had said. As per the chief minister’s announcement, the administration in UP’s Muzaffarnagar had sealed at least 67 shops belonging to alleged rioters.
