UP police announces ₹2.5L reward on suspects in Kamlesh Tiwari murder

The Uttar Pradesh police on Monday (October 21) announced a reward of ₹2.5 lakh for those who can report the whereabouts of the prime suspects in the murder of Hindu Samaj Party leader Kamlesh Tiwari, said a report by ANI.

An announcement in this regard was made by the state director general of police (DGP) OP Singh. While five people have been arrested for Tiwari’s murder, two were released later. Police are yet to zero in on the prime suspects – Ashfaq and Moinuddin – who are at large.

The three arrested suspects were presented before a Lucknow court on Monday after a court in Ahmedabad granted 72-hour transit remand to the police on Sunday.

Tiwari, on October 18, was stabbed multiple times before being shot from a close range by two miscreants at his home in Lucknow’s Khurshid Bagh. Sources said, the attackers dressed in saffron robes had entered Tiwari’s office on the pretext of handing him a box of sweet, which allegedly contained guns.

A joint team of Gujarat police, Uttar Pradesh police and Uttar Pradesh’s anti-terror squad on Saturday had arrested three suspects – Mohsin Sheikh, Khurshid Ahmed Pathan and Faizan – from Surat on charges of murdering Tiwari. The three are being interrogated, police said.

Quoting police sources, a report in India Today stated that the plan to kill Tiwari was executed two months ago by the detained people over an alleged hate speech given by him.

Earlier the Gujarat anti-terrorist squad after investigations had said that one of the key suspects had created a fake identity to befriend Tiwari through social media.

“We are regularly interrogating the Maulanas of Bijnaur. The connections of the murder of Kamlesh Tiwari lie both inside and outside Uttar Pradesh, but we are not denying any angle at this moment,” ANI quoted DGP Singh as saying.

“The police is working the case very minutely and is leaving no possible angle in the course of the investigation. Be it Maharashtra, Gujarat, Haryana, Ambala or UP angle, we are leaving nothing to chance and are in touch with heads of police departments of all states,” Singh told reporters.

He also said that the department has sought the help of DGPs in Karnataka, Maharashtra, and Gujarat to help nab the culprits.
