Unnao case: Temporary court put up at AIIMS to record statement of survivor
A temporary court was put up at the AIIMS on Wednesday (September 11) to enable the rape survivor in the Unnao case to record her statement. BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar, who was expelled from the party for his alleged involvement in the 2017 rape case, was also brought to the AIIMS to ensure his presence when the statement of the victim is being recorded. He was brought along with co-accused Shashi Singh.
The statement needs to be secured at the hospital as her doctors had ruled out taking her to the court due to the victim’s fragile condition.
District Judge Dharmesh Sharma arrived at the temporary court for recording the statement. He had given instructions on Saturday for setting up a temporary court at the Jai Prakash Narayan Apex Trauma Centre, AIIMS, where the woman is currently being treated. The high court had given the special judge Sharma permission on Friday (September 7) through a notification from the administrative side.

A Delhi high court framed charges against Sengar on August 9 and named him the key accused in the 2017 Unnao rape case. The court has framed charges under Section 120B (criminal conspiracy), Section 363 (kidnapping), Section 366 (kidnapping or inducing a woman to compel for marriage), 376 (rape) and other relevant sections under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
The woman had allegedly been kidnapped and raped by Sengar in 2017 when she was a minor.
On July 28, the rape survivor was grievously injured and hospitalised after a truck crashed into her car in Uttar Pradesh’s Rae Bareli. Two of her aunts were killed in the mishap while her lawyer was injured.
