Tamil film industry prays for speedy recovery of singer SPB
The fraternity of artists on Thursday (August 20) observed a mass prayer for the speedy recovery of veteran playback singer SP Balasubrahmanyam, who is battling COVID-19 at a private hospital in Chennai. The 74-year-old singer was admitted to MGM Healthcare on August 5 after he tested positive for COVID-19.

Actors Rajinikanth, Kamal Haasan, Sathyaraj, Shivakarthikeyan, among others, took part in the silent prayer. Music composers Ilayarajaa, AR Rahman, Devi Sri Prasad, Anirudh and SS Thaman too wished the singer a speedy recovery. The hashtag, #GetWellSoonSPBSIR was trending nationwide as thousands of people prayed for the singer.

Meanwhile, the hospital, in a release, said the singer continued to be critical on ventilator and ECMO support in the Intensive Care Unit. “Our multi-disciplinary team of clinicians have been actively collaborating with national and international experts, and continue to closely monitor his vital parameters,” it read.
Balasubrahmanyam has recorded over 40,000 songs in 16 Indian languages and holds the Guinness World Record for recording the highest number of songs by a singer.
