SC tells Centre to take NEET candidates in Vande Bharat flights

With the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for admission into medical and dental courses is scheduled to be held on September 13, the Supreme Court on Monday (August 24) told the Centre to accommodate students from foreign countries who wish to appear for the exam in Vande Bharat flights, NDTV reported.

According to the report, the apex court also said the Medical Council of India (MCI) could conduct NEET online to from next year onwards. “If the Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) can be held online then you should consider NEET also to be held in an online form from next year,” NDTV quoted the Supreme Court as saying.

On August 17, the Supreme Court had dismissed a plea seeking postponement of JEE (Main) April 2020 and NEET-Undergraduate examinations, which are scheduled to be conducted in September, amid a spurt in the number of COVID-19 cases, saying that the precious year of students “cannot be wasted” and life has to go on.

The JEE (Main) is scheduled to be held between September 1 and 6, while the JEE (Advanced) on September 27. Education Ministry officials had said the JEE (Main) and the NEET-UG will be conducted in September as scheduled. JEE is for admission into premier engineering colleges, while NEET for undergraduate medical courses.
