Say no to panic, yes to precautions: PM Modi on coronavirus

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday said no minister of his cabinet will travel abroad in the upcoming days in view of the coronavirus outbreak, as he appealed to the citizens to not spread panic and ensure precautionary measures to prevent themselves from the infection.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday (March 12) said no minister of his cabinet will travel abroad in the upcoming days in view of the coronavirus outbreak, as he appealed to the citizens to not spread panic and ensure precautionary measures to prevent themselves from the infection.

In a tweet, Modi said the chain of spread of the virus can be broken by avoiding large gatherings. It may be noted the prime minister had also avoided the Holi celebrations this year to avoid mass gathering during the spring festival.

“Say No to Panic, Say Yes to Precautions. No Minister of the Central Government will travel abroad in the upcoming days. I urge our countrymen to also avoid non-essential travel. We can break the chain of spread and ensure safety of all by avoiding large gatherings,” he said.

The prime minister further said his government is fully vigilant about the situation in the country due to the coronavirus outbreak, and that multiple steps have been taken to ensure safety of all.

“The Government is fully vigilant about the situation due to COVID-19 Novel Coronavirus. Across ministries & states, multiple steps have been proactively taken to ensure safety of all. These steps are wide-ranging, from suspension of Visas to augmenting healthcare capacities,” tweeted Modi.

At least 73 positive cases of coronavirus have been reported in India so far, of which 56 are Indians and 17 are foreigners, the union health ministry said earlier in the day.
