Record number of doctors in next 10 years, says PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday that there will be record number of doctors in India in the next 10 years following the government’s decision to have a medical college in each district of the country.

He said this while dedicating the KK Patel Super Speciality Hospital at Bhuj in Gujarat to the nation via video-conferencing.

Advance in medical facilities

“Ayushman Bharat Yojana and Jan Aushadhi Centres have helped poor and middle-class families in saving money while undergoing treatment,” the Prime Minister said adding, “programmes like Health and Wellness Centres and Ayushman Infrastructure Scheme are helping people get easy access to medical treatment.”

“Patients will get more help with Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission,” he said. Speaking about Ayushman Health Infrastructure Mission, Modi said that it is working towards taking modern and critical care facilities to the block level.

Giving the example of Gujarat, he said two decades ago the state had just nine medical colleges. “Now the state has one AIIMS and over three dozen medical colleges. Earlier, only 1,000 students used to get admission in medical colleges of Gujarat, now around 6,000 students get admission in these colleges. AIIMS in Rajkot has started admitting 50 students from 2021,” Modi said.

Kutch charitable hospital

The 200-bed hospital inaugurated by the Prime Minister has been built by Shree Kutchi Leuva Patel Samaj of Bhuj and is the first charitable super-speciality hospital in Kutch. The hospital makes medical super-speciality services easily accessible for the people of the region at an affordable price, the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

The Prime Minister will be inaugurating more projects in Gujarat when he visits the state for three days, beginning April 18. During this visit, Modi will go to the tribal dominated region of Dahod and milk producing region of Banaskantha. With Gujarat elections slated to be held by year end, many more visits for inauguration of various development projects by the Prime Minister are likely.
