Rahul, Priyanka urge youth to take part in Cong's anti-CAA protest

Taking a dig at the Centre, Congress party’s former president Rahul Gandhi, on Monday (December 23), called upon students and youth of the nation to join him in a protest against the hate and violence unleashed on India by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Amit Shah.

In his tweet, addressing the students and youth of the nation, Gandhi said, “At times like these it’s critical to show that you’re Indian & won’t allow India to be destroyed by hatred.”

The Congress party will hold a protest at Raj Ghat, at 3 pm against the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and National Register of Citizens (NRC).

According to reports, this is the first time a large number of leaders of the party led by Sonia Gandhi, including Rahul Gandhi, would be hitting the streets after the CAA sailed through both houses.

Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra in a tweet in Hindi also appealed to people to join them. “This country is a collective bond, collective dream. We have nurtured this land with Labour. We have to save the country from the politics of divide and rule.”

However, the Congress has faced heavy criticism for not coming out in large numbers to support the protesters, who are attacked by the government for voicing against the bills.

In the absence of Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra joined the protesters at India Gate last week.

On Sunday, Narendra Modi and Amit Shah accused the opposition of destroying the youth and students and injecting them with hatred.
