On Wednesday (February 12) the price of cooking gas LPG was hiked by a steep ₹144.5 per cylinder due to spurt in benchmark global rates of the fuel. LPG which was priced at ₹714 earlier was hiked to ₹858.50 per 14.2 kg according to a notification by state-run oil marketing companies.
In Kolkata, LPG cylinder prices were hiked by ₹149 to ₹896, in Mumbai by ₹145 to ₹829.5 and in Chennai by ₹147 to ₹881.
This is the steepest hike in rates since January 2014 when prices had gone up by ₹220 per cylinder to ₹1,241.
The picture tweeted by Rahul dates back to June 2011 when the BJP was up in arms against Manmohan Singh led government’s decision to hike LPG prices by ₹50. Netizens were quick to dig up Irani’s old tweets condemning petrol price hike and called her out on the hypocrisy of being mute over the current situation.
Yet another hike in petrol prices. UPA seems 2 ignore public outcry over price rise. Arrogance of power, unsympathetic 2 d needs of d poor.

The Congress on Wednesday had accused the Modi government of “electrocuting” the budget of the common man by raising the price of domestic cooking gas and demanded its immediate rollback.
