PM Modi tells retiring RS members to share their experience to inspire generations
Bidding farewell to 72 retiring members of the Rajya Sabha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi advised them to take the experience they have gathered as a member of this House, to all the four directions of the country and inspire coming generations.
No Zero or Question hour was taken up today and the leaders spoke in the House on the occasion.
“Our Rajya Sabha members have a lot of experience… and sometimes experience has more power than academic knowledge,” he said. We will say to the retiring members ‘come again’, said Modi.
Further, the PM said that academic knowledge has many limitations sometimes, and it is useful in seminars. But what one gains from experience is so powerful that it helps to provide “simple solutions to solve problems”. Championing the cause of experience, he said, mistakes are minimised as it mixes experience with newness. And, to him, experience has a “great significance” of its own.

Modi also advised members to write down their memories as a useful reference for the future generations. The members shape and impact the direction of the country, their memories can be used for the development of the country in an institutionalised manner, he noted.
Modi also wanted the retiring members to inspire people from the “big platform” of the celebrations of India’s 75 years of independence. “Our great men have given a lot for the country, now it is our responsibility to give them back. We will take that sentiment from here,” he said, asking the retiring members to use this “precious festival of freedom” as a medium to make their contributions. And if they manage to do that the country will get a lot of strength and they would also benefit from it.
Some of the retiring members include names such as Anand Sharma, AK Antony, K Somaprasad, Naresh Gujral, Dr Subramanian Swamy, Dr Narendra Jadhav, Suresh Gopi, MC Mary Kom, Roopa Ganguly, Swapan Dasgupta, who are all set to retire in April. While Jairam Ramesh, Nirmala Sitharaman, KC Ramamurthy, Suresh Prabhu, TG Venkatesh, and more will retire in June. Piyush Goyal, P Chidambaram, Praful Patel and others are expected to retire in July.
