PM Modi meets Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (October 22) met Nobel laureate Abhijit Banerjee and said that he had a “healthy and extensive” interaction with him on various subjects.
Banerjee, an Indian-born American professor at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, won the Nobel in economics this year, jointly with wife Esther Duflo and Michael Kremer for “experimental approach to alleviating global poverty”.
The meeting comes in the backdrop of Banerjee’s critique of the NDA government’s economic policies.
Modi, after the meeting tweeted a picture of him with Banerjee. “Excellent meeting with Nobel Laureate Abhijit Banerjee. His passion towards human empowerment is clearly visible. We had a healthy and extensive interaction on various subjects. India is proud of his accomplishments. Wishing him the very best for his future endeavours,” Modi tweeted.
