Nagaland minister on population control: ‘Stay single like me and contribute to a sustainable future’
Nagaland minister Temjen Imna Along, who is in the news for his humorous remark on “small eyes” of people from the northeast, made a witty remark on the country’s population.
Along used the occasion of World Population Day (July 11) to suggest a way to control the country’s growing population. Temjen Imna Along wrote on Twitter: “On the occasion of World Population Day, let us be sensible towards the issues of population growth and inculcate informed choices on childbearing. Or stay single like me and together we can contribute towards a sustainable future. Come join the singles movement today.”

The minister’s witty message won Twitterati’s praise. “You have a unique sense of humour. I really like you blending elements of humour with serious topics,” a user wrote.
Another user said Inma Along is the most eligible bachelor after Salman Khan.
Earlier, Along won praise for his comment on the popular stereotype that people from the northeast region of India face because of their “small eyes”. The BJP leader said it is true that people from the northeast have smaller eyes but their vision is sharp. The video of his comment has gone viral since. “Because of smaller eyes we don’t get much dirt inside the eyes. And we can easily sleep when some long programme is going on,” the minister said amid applause.
