Moosewala fans raise slogans against CM Mann; demand death for killers

Security has been beefed up around the farmland of late Shubdeep Singh Sidhu Moosewala, the Congress leader who was shot dead, in Moosa village of Mansa district in Punjab for the final rites on Tuesday (May 31).

Earlier in the day, the police resorted to lathicharge as fans created ruckus outside Moosewala’s house. People were shouting slogans against the Mann government, which had withdrawn security cover given to the 27-year-old singer a day before the incident happened.

He was shot dead on Sunday evening (May 29) outside the Jawahar Ke village, about 10 kilometres from his home. Moosewala’s body was carried from the hospital to his home on Tuesday morning and the last rites will be performed at his agricultural field later in the day.

Punjab Congress President Amrinder Raja Warring and working president Bharat Bhushan Ashu paid their last respects to Moosewala at Moose village on Tuesday.

Moosewala’s friends and teachers at Guru Nanak Dev Engineering College in Ludhiana couldn’t believe he is no more. They said Moosewala was proud of his Punjabi roots. Moosewala graduated in 2016, the year he wrote lyrics for his first commercial composition ‘License’ sung by another singer Ninja.

They remembered him as a young boy roaming the campus on his Royal Enfield bullet and sing-play harmonium in his hostel room besides performing at the college’s cultural programmes.

Lawrence Bishnoi, who is lodged in Delhi’s Tihar Jail, and Canada-based gangster Goldy Brar have taken responsibility for Moosewala’s murder.

Moosewala’s post-mortem report confirms he received 24 bullets, mostly on his chest and abdomen.
