Mamata blames Centre's vendetta politics for Tapas Paul death
A day after Trinamool Congress leader and actor Tapas Paul passed away, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Wednesday (February 19) alleged that “pressure” created by central agencies and “vendetta politics” led to his death.
Speaking to reporters at Rabindra Sadan, where Paul’s mortal remains have been kept for people to pay homage, she said, “Tapas Paul was under tremendous pressure from central agencies and was a victim of the Centre’s vendetta politics.”

Banerjee also alleged that another TMC leader Sultan Ahmed had also died of cardiac arrest as he was under stress after being named an accused in the Narada tapes scandal of 2017.
Paul, a two-term former MP, died at the age of 61 in Mumbai on Tuesday after a heart attack.
Paul was elected to the Lower House of Parliament from Krishnanagar constituency in 2009 and 2014. He stayed away from acting in films after the CBI arrested him in the Rose Valley chit-fund scam in December 2016. He was given bail after 13 months.
