Jaya's estranged kin to inherit her assets worth ₹900 crore
The Madras High Court on Wednesday (May 27) declared former Tamil Nadu chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s niece J Deepa and nephew J Deepak as Class II heirs of her property.

The court also advised the Edappadi Palaniswami government to reconsider its decision to turn Poes Garden house of Jayalalithaa into a memorial as it would be a burden on the state exchequer.
“The petitioner Mr J Deepak and the respondent Ms J Deepa are the class-II legal heirs of late Chief Minister Dr J Jayalalithaa, being the son and the daughter of the late Chief Minister Dr J Jayalalithaa’s brother Late J Jayakumar,” Deccan Herald quoted a division bench of Justice N Kirubakaran and Abdul Quddhose as saying.
The court said the Tamil Nadu government should issue notice to the siblings and pay compensation to them while acquiring the residence of the late chief minister.

The bench said Deepa and Deepak, the children of Jayalalithaa’s brother J Jayakumar, are entitled to the Letters of Administration in respect of the estate held individually by or in the names of the firms or companies and the credits. It also said that the siblings have to allot a few properties according to their discretion and create a registered public trust in the name of their late aunt for the purpose of doing social service within a period of eight weeks from the date of receipt of the order copy.
The AIADMK government took temporary possession of Veda Nilayam, Jayalalithaa’s posh bungalow in Chennai’s Poes Garden last week through an ordinance promulgated by governor Banwarilal Purohit, to establish the memorial.
The house was bought by Jayalalithaa’s mother Sandhya in the late 1960s.
Despite being estranged with former AIADMK supremo, Deepa and Deepak had approached the High Court seeking Letters of Administration without Will for Administration of properties and credits owned by Jayalalithaa, who passed away on December 5, 2016.
