In what seemed to be a confidence-oozing step, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath on Friday met Governor Lalji Tandon and sought a floor test.

The crisis was triggered after 22 rebel Congress MLAs resigned and senior leader Jyotiraditya Scindia joined the BJP over the past week.

The Congress and the BJP heralded their supporters to resorts in Jaipur and Gurugram respectively to prevent them from switching sides.

Reports said Kamal Nath told the Governor that a floor test was required so that the government could go forward with a legislative mandate.

The Indian Express said the CM had written a letter to the Governor hat three chartered aircraft were used to ‘whisk away’ 19 party MLAs. “The BJP on March 8 arranged three aircraft to whisk away 19 MLAs of the Congress party to Bengaluru. Since then, 19 of them are incommunicado in a resort arranged by the BJP,” the letter said.

The Congress leadership came out in support of Kamal nath saying the legislators were being held captive by the BJP in the resort.

Media reports said six ministers close to Jyotiraditya Scindia would fly back to Bhopal to hand over their resignation letters to the Assembly speaker. The Congress backroom was also working overtime to make the resignation process a difficult one for the MLAs. For, it was the Speaker’s prerogative to verify and estimate if the MLAs’ resignations were on their own volition.
