Indian singer-composer Bhupinder Singh dies at 82


Famous ghazal maestro and Bollywood singer Bhupinder Singh passed away on Monday (July 18) at a Mumbai hospital. The 82-year-old singer-composer was suffering from colon cancer and was also diagnosed with COVID a week before his death, revealed his wife Mitali Singh.

Singh, famous for classic numbers like Naam Gum Jayega and Dil Dhoondta Hai, was admitted to Mumbai’s Criticare Hospital, Andheri following a urine infection, post which he was diagnosed with COVID, said his wife Mitali Singh, also a singer.

Besides Mitali, Bhupider is survived by their son.

His last rites were performed at Oshiwara Electric Crematorium in Mumbai after midnight.

“Bhupendra Singhji left for his heavenly abode at 7.45 this evening. He was unwell since last 6 months. The cremation will take place at 12.30 am (Monday night) at Oshiwara crematorium,” a member of his family said in a statement issued for the media.

Singh in his five-decade-long career, worked with some of the biggest names in the industry like Mohammed Rafi, RD Burman, Lata Mangeshkar and Asha Bhosle. He made his Bollywood singing debut in 1964 with the song Hoke Majboor Mujhe Usne Bhulaya Hoga.
