The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted dense to very dense fog conditions over parts of north-west India during the next five days, including isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh.
The weather forecast agency also warned of cold wave conditions in isolated pockets over Himachal Pradesh, Punjab, western parts of Haryana, and north Rajasthan during the next two days.
The visibility recorded at 5.30 am on Monday (December 19) was 25-50 metres in Patiala, Bareilly, Lucknow, Amritsar and Bahraich.
At around 8.45 am, the IMD said that the dense fog conditions over Punjab and north Haryana would continue for the next two hrs and improve gradually.
Surprisingly, during the past two weeks of December, there has been very little snow in the upper and lower reaches of the Himalayas.
