Hope Ayodhya event becomes marker of national unity: Priyanka Gandhi

Lord Ram is with everyone, tweeted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday, a day before the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. She hoped that the groundbreaking ceremony becomes an occasion of national unity, brotherhood and cultural harmony.

Lord Ram is with everyone, tweeted Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on Tuesday (August 4), a day before the groundbreaking ceremony of the upcoming Ram temple in Ayodhya. Accompanying the tweet was Gandhi’s statement regarding the event, in which she hoped that the groundbreaking ceremony becomes an occasion of national unity, brotherhood and cultural harmony.

The bhoomi pujan, or groundbreaking event, of the temple will take place on Wednesday, and several esteemed guests, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat, are scheduled to grace the event in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh.

In her statement a day ahead of the grand event, Gandhi said that for ages, Lord Ram’s character had served as a source of unity for the entire Indian subcontinent. “Ramayana has left an indelible mark on the civilisation of the world and the Indian subcontinent. For ages, Lord Ram’s character has helped the Indian subcontinent,” she said.

Gandhi said simplicity, courage, restraint, sacrifice, commitment are the essence of the name Deenbandhu Rama. “Lord Ram belongs to everybody. Lord Ram wants everybody’s welfare. That is why he is called ‘Maryada Purshottam’,” said Gandhi, who is the Congress general secretary in-charge of UP East.

“The groundbreaking ceremony of Ram Mandir in Ayodhya has been scheduled for August 5. Hope this event becomes a marker of national unity, brotherhood and cultural harmony in accordance with the message of Lord Ram and with his blessings,” read the statement.

The construction of the Ram temple will begin after the groundbreaking event. The Supreme Court had, in a landmark judgment last year, paved way for the construction of the temple on the disputed site in Ayodhya, nearly three decades after the Babri Masjid, which once stood there, was demolished.
