Union Minister Giriraj Singh takes his job very seriously. Being in-charge of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy ministry, he first endorsed ‘fish therapy’ to overcome depression and now the minister has posted a recipe of ‘lemon pepper fish’ on Twitter, saying “it delays ageing and boosts brain health”.

The Union government has given extra emphasis to the fisheries sector by creating a separate ministry for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairy after coming to power again in 2019.

“Lemon Pepper Fish — a perfect dinner for Friday night! Furthermore, it delays ageing and boosts brain health. Also, it helps in improving memory-related functions of the brain,” the Ministry of Fisheries posted from its official Twitter handle. The tweet also has a video of the lemon pepper fish recipe.

Singh posted the tweet on his personal handle with a message in Hindi with hashtag ‘First4Poshan’.

“Lemon Pepper Fish — This keeps the brain healthy and reduces the effects of aging. In addition, it also helps in improving memory. #Fish4Poshan,” the minister wrote.

The Department of Fisheries, under the Ministry of Fisheries, had on 15 September tweeted an image of a 2015 media report on ‘fish therapy’ that could help people “curb depression risk”.

The fisheries department earlier functioned under the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare.

As part of its effort to promote fisheries, Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently launched a Rs 20,050-crore Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana in 21 states, with an aim to double fisheries exports, create more jobs and boost farmers’ income. The government aims to double fish exports in the next 3-4 years.
