Former minister Dilip Ray sentenced to 3 years jail in coal scam case
The special CBI court in New Delhi sentenced former Union minister of state Dilip Ray to three years of imprisonment in a coal block allocation scam in 1999.
The court had convicted Ray, who was Union Minister of State of Coal in the Atal Bihari Vajpayee government, then additional coal secretary Pradip Kumar Banerjee and then ministry (projects) advisor Nityanand Gautam in the case on October 6, and spelled out the quantum of sentence on Monday.
The court held Ray and the others guilty under Sections 120-B and 120-B/409/420 of IPC and Sections 13(1) (c) and 13 (1) (d) of Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988.
The case pertains to the allocation of 105.153 hectares of abandoned coal mining area in Giridih district of Jharkhand, to Castron Technologies Limited.
