Firing at Union Minister's farmhouse in Delhi, security guard injured


A security guard at the Republican Party of India (RPI) leader’s farmhouse in Delhi was shot in the legs on Sunday (May 31) by an unidentified person, who was trying to barge into the premises. Delhi Police later shifted the 50-year-old security guard, Hari Nath, to a nearby hospital.

The incident took place at the RPI minority wing Chairman, Shameem Saifi’s farmhouse at Nehal Vihar in the national capital at around 9.30 am, according to police officials. When Hari Nath blocked the man’s attempt to enter the farmhouse, he got shot in the legs. The attacker shot five rounds on the spot, triggering panic in the area. Delhi Police is scanning CCTV footage of the area in order to trace the attacker. The investigation for the case is going on.

The RPI is led by Ramdas Athawale, who is the Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment. According to sources, the security guardsuffered bullet injuries in the legs and is admitted to Balaji Hospital for treatment. Saifi lives with his family members at the farmhouse.

Upon investigation, the Delhi Police has discovered blood stains at the entrance gate of the farmhouse. In his statement to police officers, Hari Nath alleged that the person tried to enter the farmhouse and started firing at him.

A case of attempt to murder under section 307 of the Indian penal Code (IPC) and other relevant sections of the Arms Act has been registered under the Nehal Vihar police station.
