Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given no clue so far about his choice for the post of the Speaker of the Lok Sabha. The election of the new speaker in place of Sumitra Mahajan will be held on June 19 after the process of oath of 542 newly elected members is completed on June 17-18. Those connected with the process of naming Sumitra Mahajan as speaker in 2014 recall that the PM called a meeting of the party’s top leaders in Parliament House in the morning around 10 am and her name was declared.

West Bengal docs’ stir turned into nation-wide protest
The ongoing doctors strike that started from West Bengal on 11 June has triggered a full-fledged nation-wide protest. Doctors across the country are sitting on dharna demanding better laws to protect medical professionals. The Indian Medical Association (IMA) took cognizance of the situation and extended its support after coming across many related incidents of attack on doctors. The incident that triggered the unrest was of when a young doctor in Bengal was hit by a brick on the head by assailants, resulting in skull fracture. He is now in a critical condition. Mamata Banerjee and the governments apathy towards the accident worked as the final nail on the coffin.
Haven’t invoked ESMA even after 5 days of strike: Mamata
Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said on Saturday that the West Bengal government had not invoked the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) even after five days of strike by the junior doctors and appealed to them to immediately rejoin service. “We have the laws, but we do not want to use them. We are not going to take any stringent action against any of the agitating junior doctors and hamper their career,” she said at a news conference after the agitating doctors did not turn up for a meeting at 5 pm.
KCR to include son, nephew into his cabinet
With his plans for Federal Front failing to take off and his dreams of playing a key role at the Centre lay shattered, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao is all set to induct his son K T Rama Rao and nephew T Harish Rao into his cabinet. The cabinet expansion is likely anytime after June 19. Hoping to play a crucial role at the Centre in the event of non-BJP and non-Congress parties forming the government, KCR had not constituted a full-fledged cabinet after Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) retained power in December last year.
Techies asked to ‘work from home’ due to water crisis

Four more children die due to brain fever in Bihar, toll raises to 57
Four more children died on Friday in Bihar’s Muzaffarpur district reeling under an outbreak of brain fever, taking the toll to 57 this month, state Health Minister Mangal Pandey said. All the victims have fallen prey to hypoglycemia, a condition caused by a very low level of blood sugar and electrolyte imbalance, officials said. The 57 children died in two state-run hospitals of Muzaffarpur, one of which was visited by the health minister during the day. Pandey said 47 children have lost their lives in the Sri Krishna Medical College and Hospital (SKMCH) while the 10 others died in the Kejriwal Hospital.
Will ensure accidents do not recur in future: IAF chief on AN-32 aircraft crash
The Indian Air Force will ascertain the cause of the recent crash of AN-32 aircraft in Arunachal Pradesh and ensure such accidents do not recur, IAF chief B S Dhanoa said Saturday. His comments come days after the wreckage of the IAF aircraft was found in a remote area in Arunachal Pradesh more than a week after it went missing with 13 people on board. “We have recovered the flight data recorder and cockpit voice recorder. We will go into the detail (to ascertain) as to what happened and how do we make sure that it does not happen again,” he told reporters on the sidelines of Combined Graduation Parade at Air Force Academy in Dundigal near here.
