Amid countrywide protests and opposition against the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, the BJP is slated to launch a campaign to generate awareness on the new law among the masses on Sunday (January 5).

While Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has already launched the door-to-door awareness campaign from Jaipur, the BJP in a tweet on Sunday morning posted that Home Minister Amit Shah will flag off the campaign from Delhiā€™s Lajpat Nagar. BJP working president JP Nadda will start the campaign from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh while Defence Minister Rajnath Singh will begin it at LDA colony.

The 10-day campaign will conclude on January 15. The party will take out 500 rallies across the country to reach out to almost 3 crore people.

The BJP has also launched a toll-free number (8866288662) for people to register the support for the law.

The sensitisation programme, comes two day after Shah announced that the BJP wonā€™t revoke its decision to implement CAA across the country, even if all opposition parties unite.

The Act seeks to grant Indian citizenship to persecuted immigrants from six non-Muslim communities of Pakistan, Afghanistan and Bangladesh who entered India on or before December 31, 2014.
