In its latest move of aggression, China has built three villages along the Arunachal Pradesh frontier where it disputes the border between the two countries, in a probable attempt at strengthening its territorial claims in the region, reported NDTV on Sunday (December 6).

The villages have come up at about five kms from Bum La pass near the India-China-Bhutan junction in western Arunachal Pradesh, it said.

The report quoted China-watcher Dr Brahma Chellaney as saying that the country has been settling Han Chinese and Tibetan members in the border regions to reinforce its territorial claims. China uses civilian resources like grazers for intrusions in Himalayan areas, he said.

The report quoted latest satellite images acquired from Planet Labs to make the claim of three new village constructions. However, the villages fall within Chinese territory. They were being constructed when India and China were engaged in a bitter standoff in eastern Ladakh, which continues till date due to failed talks between the two sides.

In one of the villages seen in the images dated February 17, more than 20 structures with red roofs were seen, the report said. By November 28, three new enclaves with 50 more structures were seen in the regions. The enclaves were all connected with tarred, all-weather roads, it said.
