8 Indonesians who attended Nizamuddin event quarantined in UP
The Uttar Pradesh police picked up eight Indonesians in Bijnor who had attended the Tablighi Jamaat congregation in New Delhi’s Nizamuddin area, on Wednesday (April 1).
This comes a day after the state governments were asked to begun exercise to identify people who had participated in the congregation, that has emerged as a coronavirus epicentre in India.
“The Indonesians have been home-quarantined. We have registered a case against five persons of the mosque,” ANI quoted Sanjay Singh, Superintendent of Police (Rural) as saying.

According to police, the foreigners were staying at Nagina town’s Jamunwali mosque. They came to India on a six month tourist visa and visited Odisha and Delhi, where they participated in the religious event.
Meanwhile, Lucknow Police Commissioner Sujit Pandey said, “18 residents of Lucknow, who participated in Nizamuddin Markaz event in Delhi, have not returned to the city. 24 foreigners who came to Lucknow after participating in the event have been admitted at Balrampur Hospital.”
Home Ministry has asked the states to track down Tablighi members who travelled to various parts of the country after the two-day gathering on March 8-10.
In a measure to combat the spread of the virus, all the 2,100 people have been evacuated from the building where they congregated. The police have registered a case against the mosque administration.
The Tablighi Jamaat is an Islamic missionary movement set up in 1926 and has members across the world.
