7-day home quarantine for flyers to Andaman and Nicobar

All passengers arriving at the Port Blair airport in Andaman and Nicobar islands will have to undergo seven days home quarantine even if they test negative for coronavirus infection.

In case a person tests positive, she or she will be put in institutional isolation.

Notably, four members of the Great Andamanese tribe in the Andaman and Nicobar Islands tested positive this week. Six more have recovered.

There are just 53 Great Andamanese tribals as of now — who reside in Strait Island. This sparked concerns about the impact of the ongoing pandemic on various indigenous communities in the union territory.

Mandatory home quarantine for people travelling in from the mainland is the first step towards mitigating the impact of the global pandemic on the island territory.
