2 killed, 11 injured in cracker explosion at religious procession in Punjab
At least two people have died and several others were injured in a firecracker explosion during a religious procession in Tarn Taran district of Punjab on Saturday (February 8). During the ‘nagar kirtan’ (religious procession) near Pahu village, crackers were being burst by people, reports said.
The explosion took place when sparks from the crackers landed on a tractor-trolley where the fireworks were stacked, they said. While NDTV reported at least a dozen causalities in the incident, eyewitnesses claim the number could be more than that.
Punjab Inspector General of Police (Border Range) SPS Parmar and Dhruv Dahiya have confirmed the accident but are yet to comment on the final death toll.
