With six confirmed cases and six more suspected ones being monitored in Agra, the total number of confirmed coronavirus cases in India has gone up to 28, which includes 16 Italian tourists in the country who have already been quarantined.

To handle the spike in cases and to take stock of the situation, a high-level meet has been called during the course of the day.

Addressing reporters, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said, “Anyone coming to India will be screened on arrivals. A high-level meeting has been called today at 3 pm. We have requested all hospitals in Delhi to develop good quality isolation wards, in order to stay prepared if more cases of coronavirus are suspected in the national capital.”

Stating that the government is doing all it can to contain the spread, the minister said, “Centre is taking all steps to tackle the virus. We have briefed the authorities about the cluster approach to contain the spread of the infection. Health experts are also visiting all states to assess the preparation. The government is putting in all measures to spread awareness of the virus.”

  • One person tested positive in Delhi
  • He spread the virus to 6 others in Agra
  • One Italian tourist tested positive in Rajasthan. He spread the virus to his wife and 15 others including the driver who was with them.
  • One patient tested positive in Hyderabad
  • Three people in Kerala tested positive but were discharged after they recovered
