World Cup: India win by 89 runs, continue streak against Pakistan

India has defeated Pakistan by 89 runs after the match was cut short to 40 overs and a new target of 302 runs was set.

Rain had interrupted play again with Pakistan needing 171 runs to win from 90 balls remaining.

With quick wickets, it’s six down for Pakistan and India has all the reasons to start its celebrations. Pakistan is set to chase a total of 337 runs put up by India.

Rohit Sharma put up a brilliant knock of 140 runs off 113 balls while Virat Kohli scored 77 runs off 65 balls. Mohammad Amir’s three-wicket spell helped restrict India to 336/5 in 50 overs, as he conceded only 47 runs in 10 overs. Hasan Ali and Wahab Riaz picked one wicket each.

For the seventh time in the history of World Cup, India is playing Pakistan, with the neighbour-rival looking forward to breaking the jinx and finally defeating India in a World Cup match.

Pakistan have lost all six matches against the Men in Blue in World Cup who go into this match as the mass favourite. So far, they’re unbeaten in this tournament. However, Pakistan have the knack of beating the best of teams in limited overs cricket and cannot be taken as an easy competitor.

KL Rahul opened the match alongside Rohit Sharma and Vijay Shankar has joined the pacers, which cleared all doubts that he will be batting at number 4 if everything goes according to the plan.
