17th Lok Sabha session begins, several bills listed to be cleared


The first session of the 17th Lok Sabha has begun with new members starting to take oath in their own languages. The first two days of the 30 sittings is scheduled to be devoted towards the new members taking oath. A total of 542 members are to take oath in the first two days. Pro tem speaker was administered the oath of office by President Ram Nath Kovind. The election of the speaker to the Lower House is scheduled for Wednesday. It remains to be seen who takes the place of Sumitra Mahajan. The election of the speaker will be followed by the customary President’s address to both Houses of Parliament. The budget is all set to be presented by Union Finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman.

The 17th Lok Sabha will also witness the entry of Amit Shah. Besides, some BJP veterans namely LK Advani, Murli Manohar Joshi, Sumitra Mahajan, Hukumdev Narayan Yadav, former Congress leader in Lok Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge and his deputy Jyotiraditya Scindia will missing as they either did not contest the polls or lost the elections.

There are 68 and 40 bills pending in both the Lok Sabha and the Rajya Sabha respectively.
