WC final: Man wearing 'Free Palestine' T-shirt invades pitch, hugs Kohli at Narendra Modi Stadium

The Narendra Modi Stadium is hosting the World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia and over 6,000 security personnel have been deployed in Ahmedabad for the big game.


Amid heavy security at the Narendra Modi Stadium, a Palestine supporter invaded the pitch during the ICC World Cup 2023 final and hugged Virat Kohli on Sunday (November 19).

The Narendra Modi Stadium is hosting the World Cup 2023 final between India and Australia and over 6,000 security personnel have been deployed in Ahmedabad for the big game.

However, despite tight security, a man wearing a T-shirt with ‘Free Palestine’ and ‘Stop bombing Palestine’ printed on the back and front of his T-shirt managed to enter the ground when India were batting.

The pitch invader hugged Kohli before he was removed from the ground by the security personnel.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Australian Deputy PM Richard Marles will attend the World Cup final later in the day.

On Saturday, Ahmedabad Commissioner of Police GS Malik said over 6,000 security personnel would be deployed.

Addressing a press conference, Malik said elaborate security arrangements, with personnel from Gujarat police, Rapid Action Force (RAF), home guards and others, have been made keeping in mind the movement of over one lakh spectators and the presence of several dignitaries at the stadium.

“Over 6,000 police personnel will be deployed to ensure that the mega event passes off without any trouble. Of these 6,000 personnel, nearly 3,000 will be stationed inside the stadium, while others will be deployed to guard other key locations, such as hotels where players and other dignitaries are staying,” said Malik.
