New Zealand's young batter Rachin Ravindra made his debut World Cup a memorable one as he broke Indian batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's record on Thursday (November 9) in Bengaluru.
As New Zealand virtually sealed a semifinal spot in the ICC World Cup 2023 with an easy five-wicket victory over Sri Lanka at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Thursday, Ravindra surpassed Tendulkar.
Ravindra scored a 34-ball 42 in Bengaluru to become the leading run scorer in the current edition of the World Cup. The left-handed Indian-origin batter has now scored 565 runs in nine innings. Rachi is named after Sachin and Rahul Dravid. His parents are from Bengaluru.
During this knock, Ravindra broke Tendulkar's record for most runs in a single ODI World Cup before turning 25. At the age of 23, Tendulkar had scored 523 in the 1996 World Cup.
Ravindra, 23, playing his first World Cup, has broken Tendulkar's 27-year-old record. In this World Cup, Ravindra has scored three hundreds and two fifties.
He now also holds the record for most runs in a maiden World Cup. He went past Jonny Bairstow's feat of 532 runs in the 2019 World Cup.
