Angelo timed out: Sri Lankans will ‘throw stones’ at Shakib, warns Mathews’ brother

"Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or the LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him or he will have to face the annoyance of fans," Trevin warned.

Angelo Mathews ‘Timed Out’ controversy refuses to end as the Sri Lankan batter’s brother has now issued a warning to Bangladesh captain Shakib Al Hasan over him coming to the island nation.

In the ongoing ICC World Cup 2023, Mathews was dismissed timed out after Shakib appealed during the Sri Lanka versus Bangladesh game in Delhi on Monday (November 6).

After Mathews was not ready to face his first ball within two minutes of the fall of a wicket, he was timed out. Though Mathews was at the crease within two minutes he called for a new helmet after the strap had broken.

Mathews was unhappy with the decision from the on-field umpires Marais Erasmus and Richard Kettleborough. He did have a chat with them and also Shakib but it did not help. Mathews is the first cricketer to be timed out in international cricket.

Now, Mathews’ brother Trevin Mathew has warned that Shakib could face the ire of Sri Lanka fans when he visits the country to play international or Twenty0 league matches. Trevin said people could throw stones at Shakib.

“We are very disappointed. The Bangladeshi captain has no sportsman spirit and did not show humanity in the gentleman’s game," Angelo’s brother, Trevin, who played cricket at the club level, was quoted as saying by Deccan Chronicle.

"Shakib is not welcome in Sri Lanka. If he comes here to play any international or the LPL matches, stones will be thrown at him or he will have to face the annoyance of fans," Trevin warned.
